The State condemned for ecological damage

In a judgment dated July 18, the Administrative Court of Rennes recognized the State’s culpable failure to limit the development of green algae in Brittany and therefore condemned it for the ecological damage caused.

The judge considers that this deficiency results from the fact that the prefect of Côtes d’Armor did not take the necessary measures to control and reduce discharges from agricultural operations classified under the ICPE and responsible for the proliferation of algae.

The prefect is therefore ordered to take, within four months, measures applicable to the ICPE concerned in order to reduce this phenomenon.
